NEW ORLEANS (CNN) -- The U.S. city synonymous with Mardi Gras always gets national exposure at this time of year. But when it's flesh that's being exposed, the type of attention New Orleans draws is the kind of publicity local officials would rather do without.

Although police are cracking down on public nudity, this year's pre-Lenten celebration is expected to be one of the biggest and barest Mardi Gras ever.
