Suspect, from Oregon, had guns, bomb material in his car

March 23, 2000
Web posted at: 2:54 p.m. EST (1954 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An Oregon man driving a car loaded with guns and bomb-making material was arrested in a Pentagon parking lot, it was disclosed on Thursday.

A Pentagon spokesman said Anthony Premo, 29, was arrested Wednesday night and turned over to the FBI, which was investigating the case. The name of the suspect's hometown was not immediately available.

The spokesman said Pentagon police stopped a car with out-of-state plates about 9 p.m. Wednesday for running a stop sign in a parking lot at Defense Department headquarters.

Officers noticed the man had a number of weapons in the car, including handguns and rifles, the spokesman said.

The Pentagon said it has no information on the man's intentions.

One Pentagon source said the man claimed to be a federal immigration agent and produced identification to that effect, but that his claim did not check out.
