NEW YORK (CNN) -- With seven livery cab drivers slain on the job this year, New York has begun a grant program aimed at making the vehicles safer for the drivers.

The killings have prompted City Hall to create a grant program to help the independent drivers install partitions or security cameras that could protect them from riders who might threaten their lives.

Correspondent Maria Hinojosa reports on how the drivers are reacting to the slayings.
