| Small earthquake shakes northeast Ohio
ALLIANCE, Ohio (Reuters) -- A small earthquake shook northeast Ohio Sunday night in an area where seismic activity is rare, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said Monday. The quake measured 2.8 on the Richter scale and caused no damage or injuries, authorities said. "I kind of equate it to going over a speed bump," Alliance, Ohio, Police Sgt. T.J. Seymour said. The shallow quake was felt in an area halfway between Cleveland and Columbus near the Pennsylvania border. "Ohio gets a few (earthquakes) but not that many and not in that part of the state," said USGS spokeswoman Carolyn Bell. More seismic activity is felt closer to Cleveland in the area hugging the Lake Erie shore. Copyright 2000 Reuters. All rights reserved.
