| Gasoline prices fall to springtime levels
(CNN) -- The Lundberg Survey found that the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular was $1.49 as of August 11, a drop of 7.5 cents since the prior survey three weeks ago. Overall, gasoline prices are down 18 cents per gallon since their peak June 23. "It's good for vacationers on the road," Trilby Lundberg, a petroleum analyst, said. "There's another month to go of summer driving." The reduction in prices was felt throughout the country. No region experienced any gasoline price hikes during the three week period between July 21 and August 11. San Francisco had the nation's highest price -- $1.84 -- for self-serve regular, while Indianapolis saw the lowest price of $1.25 per gallon. Prices for self-serve regular in some cities were: $1.39 in Atlanta; $1.40 in Chicago; $1.50 in Denver; $1.71 in Hartford, Connecticut; $1.80 in Honolulu; $1.54 in Los Angeles; $1.63 in Seattle, Washington, and $1.68 on Long Island in New York. The report is based on a survey of gasoline prices at 10,000 service stations across the nation.
