Students, teachers learn from life

ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CNN) -- Reading, writing and arithmetic are not all that's being taught at Flower Valley Elementary School, where minorities account for more than a quarter of the student body.

Teachers learn about their students by taking bus rides through their neighborhoods. And students learn about character and settling arguments calmly.

But as this report explains, there are still problems at the school.
