Baby dies in Chicago after father forgets her in car

CHICAGO, Illinois (Reuters) -- A five-month-old girl died in Chicago after her father apparently forgot her strapped in a car seat when he went to work and left her in the vehicle all day, police said Wednesday.

The body of Kimberly Dunbar was found in the car late Tuesday by her mother, LaTonya, after a baby sitter told her the child had not been dropped off by her father, as was usually the case, investigators said.

The father, who was not identified, had left for work Tuesday morning with the baby and her mother. He dropped the mother off at her job and then went to his place of work, neglecting to drop off the infant, police said.

The cause of death was not immediately determined. Police said they did not know if the windows were rolled up during the day which was sunny with temperatures around 70 Fahrenheit.
