DEARBORN, Michigan (CNN) -- New car shoppers: Start your engines. The 2001 models are out. There are SUVs galore, a new look for the classic Corvette and plenty of technical advances.

But one feature that buyers won't like is a fresh case of sticker shock. The average price for a new vehicle is in the $25,000 range.
