Bomb squad training mishap caught on video

Fireworks detonate in Wichita, Kansas, on Friday, injuring three bomb squad officers

WICHITA, Kansas -- A bomb squad officer is in critical condition at a Wichita hospital after a training exercise using fireworks went awry.

Another officer is in fair condition and a third escaped unharmed.

The bomb disposal unit had dug two pits to detonate some aging fireworks.

One officer was down in a pit when an unplanned explosion occurred, triggering another blast in the second pit and setting fire to the truck that transported the fireworks to the Sedgewick County bomb disposal site.
