Worker survives Texas trench collapse, two die
RICHMOND, Texas (CNN) -- One of three construction workers buried in a trench collapse Saturday was found alive, dug out and taken to a hospital, firefighters said. The bodies of the other two workers have been found but not yet recovered, the firefighters said. The survivor was found after sounds were heard coming from the area where the men were buried. Rescuers first uncovered the man's head, then worked gingerly to free him. He was taken to a hospital aboard a helicopter Saturday night. The collapse occurred about 10.30 a.m. "Right now we're just trying to get the ground secured so we can try to get the men out because the ground is still crumbling into the hole," said Firefighter Lori Bownds. About 75 rescue officials were at the site, where a new Office Depot is under construction. Richmond is about 23 miles southwest of Houston.
