| Cleanup continues at scene of Amtrak crash in California
One person killed when train hits truckFrom CNN Correspondent Jim Hill MOORPARK, California (CNN) -- Workers had removed Sunday all but two cars of a five-car Amtrak passenger train that slammed into a tree-trimming truck Saturday, killing one of the truck's occupants, critically injuring the other and tearing the truck in two. Twenty-nine people on the train were injured, including a train engineer. The injured passengers, who received minor to moderate injuries, were taken to four area hospitals. Three of the cars derailed in the accident, which occurred about noon just west of this city, 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles, in Ventura County. Amtrak train 462 -- the Amtrak Surfliner -- was westbound, en route from San Diego to Goleta, California, carrying 84 passengers and four crew members when it hit the truck at a two-lane, private road crossing near State Route 118. The crossing is controlled by a stop sign and a railroad crossing sign but has no barriers, said Dave Webb, with the California Highway Patrol. The accident took place just west of Moorpark, along a stretch of track where trains are allowed to travel at 70 mph, in a rural area of citrus ranches, Webb said. The tree-trimming truck had been hauling a small trailer, said Webb.
