Officials have reported at least three deaths in Mitchell county this morning after a possible tornado touched down in southwest Georgia county about 1 a.m., the American Red Cross said.
American Red Cross spokeswoman Robin Dotson said the tornado may
have been the same one that touched down earlier on the
Colquitt-Mitchell county line. Early reports indicate Mitchell
County was the hardest hit.
Dotson says there may be other fatalities in Mitchell County.
One television station, WALB-TV in Albany, is reporting as many
as 11 deaths in all three counties -- five deaths in Mitchell, five
deaths in Grady county and one death in Colquitt county.
Dotson said the Mitchell County hospital is working off a
generator.
