Tropical storm Rosa threatens Mexico Pacific coast
MEXICO CITY, Mexico (Reuters) -- Tropical storm Rosa was threatening Mexico's Pacific coast on Sunday, swirling off southern Oaxaca and Chiapas states and headed northward towards Acapulco resort in Guerrero state, weather officials said.
Mexico's National Civil Protection System said satellite images showed heavy clouds in a 120 mile (200 km) radius from the storm's center. The storm was located over the sea 341 miles (545 km) south-southwest of Puerto Angel in Oaxaca state and was expected to move closer to land by Monday.
According to the Miami National Weather Service, Rosa's center was located near 11.2 north by 98.5 west, with maximum sustained winds of up to 40 knots and gusts of up to 50 knots.
Separately, a stationary weather front in the north of Mexico was causing strong rains, some electric storms and clouds in the states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, Mexican authorities said.
