| Kenyans demonstrate over murder of U.S. priestNAIROBI, Kenya (Reuters) -- Hundreds of demonstrators marched through the streets of the Kenyan capital on Wednesday protesting over the murder of a controversial American priest. The protesters, mainly students, marched to the parliament and to Nairobi police headquarters denouncing last week's murder ofFather John Kaiser as being politically motivated.
Kaiser, a critic of several senior cabinet ministers, was found dead near the town of Naivasha, 80 km (50 miles) north-west of Nairobi, on Thursday with a single bullet in his head. Police said the killing bore the hallmarks of an execution. Earlier thousands of people attended a memorial service for the priest, waving placards saying "Killers of Father Kaiser are assassins of truth and liberty" and "How long can they kill our prophets," echoing a line from Bob Marley's Redemption Song. Several leading opposition MPs attended. The march passed off peacefully with riot police keeping their distance as the protesters wended their way through the city's streets. Kaiser, whose murder is being jointly investigated by the Kenyan police and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, will be buried on Thursday. Copyright 2000 Reuters. All rights reserved.
