| 50 dead as tribes in Chad feud over land around wellN'DJAMENA, Chad (Reuters) -- Fifty people were killed and many more injured when two tribes fought for control of land around a well in central Chad, police sources said on Thursday. The government sent troops to restore order after the clash between the Oulad Rachid and the Khozam tribes on Tuesday around the Am Zaafaye well in the Ouadi Rime district, officials said. The feud over the well dates back several months, they said, adding that repeated efforts by the authorities to settle the dispute had failed. Copyright 2000 Reuters. All rights reserved.
