| Helicopter crashes in Swedish mountainsSTOCKHOLM, Sweden (Reuters) -- A helicopter with three people on board has crashed into a mountainside while trying to rescue two climbers in Sweden. Police said rescue crews were trying to reach the site of Friday's crash on Kebnekaise, Sweden's highest mountain. The condition of the helicopter crew was not known. The climbers remain stuck on the mountain but were not injured in the crash, police spokesman Owe Savonen said. The helicopter, which had been called in by a rescue team that had reached the two stranded climbers, was making an approach when it crashed about 1,800 metres (6,000 feet) up the mountain, Savonen said. Two helicopters and another rescue team, as well as the rescuers that had already reached the climbers by foot, also were trying to reach the site of the wreck on the southwest side of the mountain. "It's very steep terrain, it's very difficult climbing," Savonen said. Copyright 2000 Reuters. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
