Madonna gives birth to boy

Madonna, 41, has given birth to a boy, her second child
Madonna, 41, has given birth to a boy, her second child

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- Pop superstar Madonna gave birth to a baby boy on Friday, some three weeks earlier than expected, her publicist said.

"English film director Guy Ritchie and Madonna are delighted to announce the birth of their son, Rocco Ritchie, on August 11, 2000," a statement from Madonna's record company Warner Brothers said.

"Overjoyed mother, father, sister Lourdes, and baby, are all safe and sound at an undisclosed location. There will be no further information available," the statement added.

Madonna, who turns 42 on August 16, had said in an telephone interview with a Los Angeles radio station on Thursday that she wanted to give birth in the United States rather than in England, where she has been living with Ritchie.

Madonna had described herself as being as big as a water buffalo and said she was no longer able to do yoga exercises.

Her three year-old daughter Lourdes was fathered by her former personal trainer.
