Greek anarchists burn Italian diplomat's car

ATHENS, Greece (Reuters) -- A Greek anarchist group set fire to an Italian diplomat's car in Athens early on Thursday, seriously damaging the vehicle, police said.

They said unknown assailants doused the car with a flammable liquid and then set it on fire. The car was parked near the home of Italian administrative attache Antonella Tassi in the Athens coastal suburb of Vouliagmeni.

The anarchist Black Star group claimed responsibility for the attack with an anonymous phone call to an Athens daily newspaper. It gave no reason for its action.

Several anarchist groups have attacked luxury or foreign cars in Athens in the past few years.

The Italian diplomat's Fiat car had a diplomatic license plate. Many embassies in Athens have regular Greek plates put on their cars for security reasons.
