Stabbing mars climax to London carnival

LONDON -- A man has been stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival in London.

Police said that the 21-year-old, who has not been formally identified, was stabbed in a street near the carnival on Monday.

"The man was rushed to St Mary's Hospital in Paddington where he later died," a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

The stabbing came as more than one million people took to the streets of the capital to enjoy the final day of Europe's largest street party.

Police made 17 arrests on Sunday for a variety of offences, the most serious being an assault on police and another stabbing.
