Four arrested over Millennium Dome contract

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Four people have been detained by police in connection with allegations of fraud involving the Millennium Dome.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said police arrested a woman in her 60s in West Yorkshire and a man in his 30s in London early on Thursday.

The two were released on bail pending further inquires and must return to a London police station in February next year.

Two more people were later arrested at an address in Liverpool -- a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s.

They will be questioned at a London police station in due course, the spokesman said.

The arrests were made following an allegation that a "contract was awarded inappropriately," police said.

The spokesman said that a number of addresses had been searched and material recovered in relation to the case.

It is the latest in a long series of scandals to hit the Dome.

Prime Minister Tony Blair recently said that with "hindsight" he would have pulled the plug on the giant structure in Greenwich, East London.
