Two die in London 'plane plunges'

LONDON, England -- Two men are believed to have fallen to their deaths from aircraft in tragic but apparently unrelated accidents.

The body of a man was discovered on Monday on the main runway at Gatwick Airport south of London after an airport worker watched in horror as he fell to his death from a departing British Airways Boeing 777.

On Sunday, the body of a young man was found in a field that lies beneath flight paths from both Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

His injuries were consistent with having fallen from a plane, police said.

"There is absolutely nothing to link these two deaths at the moment," Mike Ingle, duty manager at Gatwick, said.

Police have not revealed if the man who died in Sunday's plunge was thought to have been a stowaway.

Ingle said investigations into Monday's death were continuing:"We have no idea how he could have got there. The police are on the site."

Ingle said he could not confirm whether the body fell from the jet's undercarriage.

"The young man was seen falling from the plane, but I guess it is fair to assume that if you are going to stow away it is an obvious place to hide," he said.

Ingle said services at Gatwick were disrupted on Monday morning following the incident but had since returned to normal.
