Gunfire in Gaza injures CNN's Ben Wedeman

Wedeman receives medical attention at Shifa Hospital in Gaza on Tuesday

GAZA CITY, Gaza (CNN) -- CNN Cairo Bureau Chief Ben Wedeman was shot Tuesday while covering a clash between Palestinians and Israelis near the Karni border crossing between Gaza and Israel.
The border crossing has been a recent flashpoint in Israeli-Palestinian clashes that have continued for 34 days, leaving at least 163 people dead, most of them Palestinian.
According to CNN producers who witnessed the incident, Wedeman was lying down when a bullet struck him on his right side, entering near his waist.

Wedeman remained alert as he was taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza for treatment. The wound is not considered life-threatening.
