O'Brien's 'Cacciato' to be directed by Cassavetes
HOLLYWOOD (Reuters) -- Director Nick Cassavetes will follow New Line's "John Q" with his own adaptation of "Going After Cacciato," a $24 million picture based on the award-winning novel by Tim O'Brien, Daily Variety reported. The independently financed ensemble drama tells the story of the title character, who deserts his post in Vietnam with the intention of walking to Paris for the peace talks. A spring 2001 start is planned, with Cassavetes shooting on locations in Europe, Toronto and Asia. Cassavetes previously directed Miramax Films' "She's So Lovely," starring John Travolta and Sean Penn, from a script written by his late father John Cassavetes. O'Brien's "Cacciato" novel won the National Book Award in 1979. Copyright 2000 Reuters. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
