Speaker Hastert recovering from kidney stone surgeryAURORA, Illinois (CNN) -- U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois, was in good condition and resting comfortably Monday morning after surgery for a kidney stone, his spokesman said.
John McGovern said Hastert checked himself into Rush-Copley Medical Center in the Chicago suburb of Aurora about 9 p.m. Sunday after he began to experience discomfort. Tests showed he had a kidney stone, and Hastert underwent surgery to remove it early Monday. The operation lasted about 40 minutes. "He's good," said the nursing supervisor on duty. McGovern said doctors believe the speaker will make a "full and speedy recovery" and could be released sometime Monday. Hastert, 59, had a bout with kidney stones 10 years ago, McGovern said. Hastert represents a district west of Chicago. RELATED SITES:
