Clintons to partially comply with donor list subpoena

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will turn over documents to Republican Dan Burton's House committee pertaining to any donations or pledges made by Denise Rich, Marc Rich and Beth Dezoretz to the Clinton presidential library, legal sources told CNN on Thursday.

Sources said they will not comply with requests from Burton's committee -- the House Government Reform Committee -- to identify anyone who donated or pledged $5,000 or more. Sources close to the Clintons characterized that request as a "fishing expedition."

David Kendall, the former president's attorney for the library, has said such lists for private foundations are "privileged under the law" and he would fight their disclosure.

But sources told CNN that lawyers for the Clintons believe the committee's request for documents pertaining to those who are the "nexus of the investigation" are reasonable and that they will comply with that request.

The deadline for responding to the subpoena is noon Thursday. A spokesman for Burton's committee said he would not comment on whether that would be acceptable until he receives a response from the Clintons.
