Activists send AIDS message in China

(CNN) -- China is beginning to acknowledge the severity of its AIDS epidemic.

Officials say 600,000 people are infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, and the number is growing by more than 30 percent a year. The government has pledged to spend $235 million to care for patients and raise public awareness of the disease.

But many activists in Hong Kong worry the government won't do enough to reach the gay community, at high risk for contracting HIV.

CNN's Kristie Lu Stout explains how some activists are trying to get the message out.
