CBS News employee tests positive for skin form of anthraxNEW YORK (CNN) -- An assistant to CBS News anchor Dan Rather has tested positive for the skin form of anthrax, the network said Thursday. A CBS official told CNN that the employee, a young woman, was responding well to antibiotics and was resting at home. Part of her duties include opening mail for Rather, but the official said it was not clear how the employee may have contracted anthrax. The official said the network has no knowledge of any suspicious mail delivered to Rather's office. The test results became known Thursday, the official said. The woman noticed what appeared to be a bug bite on her chin and went for testing less than a week ago. CBS News officials will meet with city health department officials Thursday to determine whether additional tests are needed in the newsroom, Rather's office and throughout the building. Earlier tests have found no indication of anthrax contamination at CBS. An assistant to NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw and a baby of an ABC News producer have also been diagnosed with skin anthrax. |
