FBI announces arrest in arson attacks
NEW YORK (CNN) -- The FBI has arrested a 19-year-old man on charges that he helped the underground environmental group Earth Liberation Front carry out a campaign of arson and vandalism in Suffolk County over the past few months. FBI Spokesman Jim Margolin told CNN that Connor Cash would be arraigned Thursday in Central Islip, Long Island on charges of arson conspiracy and aiding and abetting an arson. The FBI and the U.S. Attorney's office for New York's Eastern District plan a news conference at 2 p.m. EST in Central Islip to announce details of the arrest. Margolin said Thursday's arrest was part of the same investigation that led to plea bargains Wednesday by two Suffolk county teenagers in the arson and vandalism attacks against condominium developments in a protest against urban sprawl. The militant Earth Liberation Front, which is known to operate in western states like Oregon and Colorado, claimed responsibility for the attacks. RELATED SITES:
