MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- O.J. Simpson pleaded not guilty Monday in a case of alleged road rage in Miami-Dade County. The former football star was not required to appear at his arraignment. His attorney spoke for him.

"We're getting our trial suits on," Simpson attorney Yale Galanter told CNN.

Simpson has said he wants to fight charges that he reached into a vehicle and took the driver's glasses. Simpson is charged with felony burglary of an occupied vehicle and misdemeanor battery. The felony charge carries up to 15 years in prison.

Police said the incident happened in December 2000 after a motorist honked his horn at Simpson. Simpson's attorney told CNN that trial is set for June 25.

The Miami-Dade state attorney's office said Simpson has the option of asking for pre-trial diversion, which is available for first-time offenders.

Spokesman Ed Griffith said it would be up to Simpson to ask for an alternative to trial. Among the options would be to go through an anger management program. Completion would permit the court to clear Simpson's record.

Galanter said Simpson has every intention of going to trial.
