Giuliani considering suing N.Y. Post over article

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday he can prove an article printed in a New York tabloid about his relationship with girlfriend Judith Nathan is untrue and will sue if it is not retracted.

Giuliani was outraged by an article printed in Tuesday's New York Post stating that he and Nathan have spent several nights together at the St. Regis hotel in midtown Manhattan.

"It is scurrilous, malicious and completely untrue," said the mayor at a press conference. "I will consider suing them for libel and defamation, and I think Judith Nathan will do the same thing."

Editors at the newspaper did not return calls for comment.

The mayor is estranged from his wife Donna Hanover and is seeking a divorce.

The article reported that when Giuliani and Nathan have stayed at the hotel, they keep a low profile and rarely leave the room. Flowers and fruit are delivered to the room, and Giuliani has the hotel press his suits in the morning.

"You get to the point where it gets ridiculous ... maybe I'm at the point where something needs to be done," the mayor said of the media attention his divorce and relationship with Nathan is getting.
