Cincinnati officer not guilty in shooting of black manCINCINNATI, Ohio (CNN) -- The Cincinnati police officer charged with two misdemeanors in the April shooting death of a black man has been found not guilty by a Hamilton County municipal court judge. The death of Timothy Thomas, 19, spurred riots in the city. Officer Stephen Roach, 27, had pleaded innocent to the charges stemming from the shooting. Roach is white. Many black residents complained Cincinnati police use tough, unfair and dangerous tactics against minorities, a charge the police chief has rejected. Thomas was shot as he fled police. He had been sought on 14 misdemeanor charges. Roach was charged with one count of negligent homicide and one count of obstruction of official business. The second charged stemmed from discrepancies in two statements Roach gave police. |
