POMONA, California (CNN) -- Rodney King, whose videotaped beating by police officers sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots, was arrested Saturday for the third time in the past six weeks.

Police said they arrested King, 36, early Saturday morning in Pomona, a community 30 miles east of Los Angeles, for suspicion of attempting to drive while under the influence of PCP, a drug.

A spokesman for the Pomona Police Department said a caller identified someone matching King's description as driving erratically in their neighborhood.

Lt. Darrell Cummings said when police appeared on the scene, King was trying to start a 1979 Datsun. He was taken into custody after failing a sobriety test.

King posted $2,500 bail and was released from the Pomona Jail late Saturday afternoon. A court hearing has been set for next month.

King faces additional misdemeanor charges of being under the influence of PCP and indecent exposure stemming from a September 29 arrest. He faces another charge of allegedly using PCP following an August 28 incident.
