Bid to save Braveheart siteEDINBURGH, Scotland -- Props from Mel Gibson's Hollywood blockbuster Braveheart are to be auctioned on the Internet to save the historic site where Scots warrior hero William Wallace was captured by the English 700 years ago. The Clan Wallace said on Wednesday it wanted to raise enough money to buy the derelict piece of land which would otherwise be used for a housing development. Clan spokesman Seorus Wallace said the site at Robroyston near Glasgow was currently littered with rubbish, derelict cars and heroin addicts' needles. "To me it's like a sacred site," he told BBC Radio Scotland. "What we intend to do is turn it into a memorial park." Among the items for sale are two jackets worn by Gibson in the Oscar-winning 1995 movie about Wallace's battle to overthrow English rule, tartan from costumes and weapons used by extras. Also on offer is a robe worn by Russell Crowe in the film Gladiator. Wallace hoped the sale on September 11 would raise £250,000 ($360,000). The Clan Wallace, which can be found at www.braveheart.co.uk, was given many of the props from the film. The sword used by Gibson in the movie sold for $170,000 at a charity auction organised by Hollywood star Liam Neeson earlier this month. Reuters contributed to this report. RELATED SITES:
