Craig David leads BRIT Award nominees

(CNN) -- The British Record Industry unveiled the nominees for the 2001 BRIT Awards Monday, with singer Craig David leading the pack with four nods: best British album, best British newcomer, best British male and best British dance act.

The annual music awards show, hosted by TV presenters Ant and Dec, is scheduled to take place February 26 at London's Earl's Court, Dotmusic.com reported. Irish rock band U2 will be on hand to receive an award for outstanding contribution to British music.

David faces a tough field in the best album category, which includes discs by David Gray, Robbie Williams, Radiohead and Coldplay.

Radiohead is also a contender in the best group category, alongside Toploader, All Saints, Coldplay and Moloko, according to the Web site. The best international group nominees are U2, The Corrs, Westlife, Santana and Savage Garden.

The best British female solo artist features chart-toppers like Dido, Sade, P.J. Harvey, Sonique and Jamelia. In the best international female solo artist category, Madonna is up against Pink, Kylie Minogue, Jill Scott and Britney Spears.

Best British male nominees are: Fatboy Slim, David Gray, Craig David, Robbie Williams and Badly Drawn Boy. The best international male artist nominees include Ricky Martin, Wyclef Jean, Eminem, Ronan Keating and Sisqo.

Other categories include: best pop act, best British single, best British video, best soundtrack, best international newcomer, best British dance act, best indie and best R&B/urban.
