Robbie Williams admits booze battle
LONDON, England -- The king of British pop, Robbie Williams, has admitted that he has a drink problem. Williams, 27, says he finds it difficult to accept his success and has become addicted to alcohol as a result. "I've been trying to get sober for the last four years, and I keep falling off and I keep getting back on," he told television chat show host Michael Parkinson in an interview to be broadcast on Saturday. "For me personally it is because I get an awful amount of success and I don't think I deserve it and then I want to sabotage it." Williams shot to stardom with the boy band Take That. He was the first of the five members to pursue a solo career and has been by far the most successful. He picked up three prizes this year at Britain's biggest annual music awards show, the Brits, including the coveted title Best Male Solo Artist. Williams has now won a record 12 Brit awards -- eight as a solo artist and four with Take That -- way ahead of his nearest rival Annie Lennox who has seven. In the TV interview the singer remained coy about his relationship with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell. The two have been regularly spotted together and make no secret of their affection for each other. "I love her very much -- she's my friend. We keep you all guessing," he told Parkinson. He hinted that he could turn his talent to the big screen. He said he has received plenty of acting offers but does not feel ready to take them up yet. Williams has previously said he would love to play the British spy 007 in a James Bond film. Reuters contributed to this report. RELATED STORIES:
