CMA nominations tap Sara Evans, 'O Brother'



(CNN) -- Sara Evans and the soundtrack to "O Brother, Where Art Thou" have enjoyed a surprisingly good year on country charts, and that was reflected in the nominations for the annual Country Music Association awards on Tuesday.

Evans, 30, rounded up a leading seven nominations, including best female vocalist and best single, song, video and album for her third LP, "Born To Fly."

The "O Brother" soundtrack, meantime, nailed nominations for album and song ("I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow") of the year. T. Bone Burnett, who produced the album that sold two million copies, also received two best vocal event nominations for the "O Brother" songs "Didn't Leave Nobody But the Baby" and "I'll Fly Away."

The nominations were announced Tuesday morning at Adelphia Coliseum by country duo Brooks & Dunn and Jo Dee Messina. Winners will be announced November 7 at a ceremony held at the Grand Ole Opry House. It will be telecast on CBS, and Vince Gill will host.

Along with Evans in the category of best female vocalist: Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Lee Ann Womack and Trisha Yearwood. Best male vocalist nominations went to Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and George Strait.

Nominees for best entertainer were Brooks & Dunn, McGraw, the Dixie Chicks, Jackson and Strait.

Nominees for the Horizon Award, bestowed upon acts with great promise, are Nickel Creek, Jessica Andrews, Jamie O'Neal, Keith Urban and Phil Vassar.

The awards show will also acknowledge this year's class of inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Everly Brothers, Sam Phillips, Waylon Jennings, Bill Anderson, the Delmore Brothers, Don Gibson, Homer & Jethro, the Jordanaires, Don Law, The Louvin Brothers, Ken Nelson and Webb Pierce will receive the honor on the November 7 broadcast.

The Country Music Association awards are picked by an estimated 6,000 CMA members, who work in the country music industry.
