Lisa Ling takes on Boston MarathonBOSTON, Massachusetts -- Lisa Ling, co-host of ABC's "The View," competed Monday in the 105th Boston Marathon after just 2 1/2 months of training. Ling was running in the marathon in honor of a 14-year-old cousin, who died of liver cancer, and her uncle, who died of a heart attack after planning to run the race and raise money for pediatric cancer. "I am nervous," Ling told New York's Daily News in Sunday's editions. "I pulled a hamstring and tendon in my foot. But I will just try to relax now. I'm going to finish the marathon by sheer force of will. "It takes a lot of time and energy," said Ling, whose longest run so far has been 20 miles. "I'll never forget this. It's going to help so many people." Ling fans can check her progress in the 26-mile race by logging on to www.bostonmarathon.com. Dudley Moore honored; Eagles battling MSNEW YORK -- A benefit honoring Dudley Moore on his 66th birthday will be held at Carnegie Hall on Monday night. The star of "Arthur" (1981) and "10" (1979) sent an open invitation to guests wanting to help celebrate, The Associated Press reports. "It's a very low-key affair at a little place . . . Carnegie Hall," Moore wrote. "You can only imagine how my supposed friends are going to try to embarrass me with clips from the many movies I've made -- fortunately there are a couple of duds by ol' Dud that they won't be able to find, even at a discount video store." Moore is suffering from a Parkinson's-like brain disorder called progressive supranuclear palsy. Proceeds from the event will benefit two of Moore's charities: Music for All Seasons and the Dudley Research Fund for PSP. Among the luminaries expected to attend: Sir Michael Caine, Dame Julie Andrews, Mary Tyler Moore, Chevy Chase and Bo Derek. Meantime, in Addison, Texas, Don Henley will reunite again with fellow Eagles to perform a benefit concert to help raise money to combat multiple sclerosis, AP reports. Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt will perform at the Saturday event, hoping to raise $1 million for researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Also performing will be former Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie Nicks and country star Trisha Yearwood. Suge Knight, a hot bath, a double cheeseburgerNEW YORK -- When you spend five years behind bars, you think about things. Ask Suge Knight. After spending half a decade in the slammer on assault-related charges, the co-founder of Death Row Records is soon getting out of Mule Creek State Prison near Sacramento, California, Newsweek reports. What's he been thinking about during his stay in stir? Fast food and a hot bath. "The first thing that I'm gonna do when I get out of here is take an hour-long bath," says Knight. "I'm sick of showers. "Then, I'm going to get me a double cheeseburger and some chili-cheese fries," says Knight, who produced platinum records by slain rap star Tupac Shakur. "I've been thinking about them ... for five years." Who stole from The Catholics?LESTER, Pennsylvania -- Suburban Philadelphia police, be on the lookout for a trailer carrying up to $100,000 worth of guitars, amplifiers, drums and other musical equipment. It seems that thieves stole the trailer, which belonged to veteran rock musician Frank Black and his band, The Catholics. They had performed Thursday night in Philadelphia, then stopped at a hotel, where the trailer was taken, The Associated Press reports. The band has canceled its next two shows. While the equipment is insured, said Black, some of the vintage items are irreplaceable. They include four 1960s Fender Telecaster guitars. Before forming The Catholics, Black was the leader of The Pixies. |
