Yo, William Morris: You're firedLOS ANGELES, California -- Sylvester Stallone might be speeding to a comeback, but his agency is getting left in the dust. Stallone, who wrote and stars in the current box-office leader "Driven," fired the William Morris Agency early Monday morning to return to International Creative Management, Variety reports. He'd been represented by agent Jim Wiatt at William Morris for the last year and a half, having followed him when Wiatt quit ICM. Stallone, who was one of the top stars of the '80s with his "Rocky" and "Rambo" movies, has not had a big hit since the 1993 mountaineering thriller "Cliffhanger." "Driven" took in a modest $12.2 million in its debut weekend, enough to put it at the top of the box officer during a lackluster weekend. Irish author enjoys 'Potter'-like successLOS ANGELES, California -- Watch out, Harry Potter. There's a new, wildly popular children's book -- written by an Irish author -- in town. "Artemis Fowl," written by Eoin Colfer, will be published by Talk Miramax next month, with a big-screen version in the works. This, after Colfer, a school teacher, earned the largest advance in history for an unknown children's author. The Frankfurt Book Fair led to 17 international book deals for Colfer. "Artemis Fowl," according to Variety, is a tale of fairies, leprechauns and gnomes fashioned into a "Die Hard" for kids. Colfer says he'll try to convince Miramax to shoot the movie version where he calls home, in Wexford, Ireland. "The town is five miles from where they shot the Normandy Beach sequences of 'Saving Private Ryan,' and up the road from where they shot battlefield scenes from 'Braveheart,' " he said. 'Charlie's Angels' sequel in worksLOS ANGELES, California -- More high-flying, sexy girl power will be coming to a theater near you in 2002. Variety reports that a sequel to last year's surprise hit "Charlie's Angels" is in the development process. Barring extended strikes by Hollywood writers and/or actors, will be ready for movie audiences sometime next year. "Depending on whether a strike happens, we should have the script in four to six weeks, (and are) planning to begin shooting in the spring of 2002," said Leonard Goldberg, who will serve as producer again. "We'll take it to the Angels for their perusal, and if they like it, Sony can sit down with them and make a deal." The "Angels" are Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. The first "Charlie's Angels" took in $125 million at the North American box office. Doherty pleads no contest to drunk drivingVENTURA, California -- Shannon Doherty pleaded no contest on Monday to charges of drunken driving and driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, The Associated Press reports. The star of the WB's "Charmed" was arrested in December after California Highway Patrol officers said they saw her Ford pickup truck weaving. Prosecutors said her blood-alcohol level was .13 percent, above the legal limit of .08 percent. Doherty, 30, also admitted on Monday to a special circumstance of refusing to submit to a chemical test. She is to be sentenced June 12. |
