Love, Nirvana-mates battle over Cobain songSEATTLE, Washington -- Courtney Love, the rock star and widow of Kurt Cobain, is going to court to face off against Cobain's former band mates. Love won an injunction on June 11 against the release of a song recorded by Cobain with grunge band Nirvana before his suicide in 1994. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl want the song to be included on a 45-track box set of the band's music, set for an October release. Warren Rheaume, the attorney for Grohl and Novoselic, says this is more than just a fight over a song. "The fight is over control of Nirvana," he says. According to court papers, Love is trying to dissolve Nirvana LLC, the corporation formed by the partnership between the two sides, the Associated Press reports. The court papers state that Love says she was "emotionally overwrought and distraught" when she signed the agreement, which requires that any proceeds from the corporation's assets be split equally among the three. Love says the song -- which has undergone several title changes and was performed at Nirvana concerts in late 1993 -- is not necessary for the box set's success. But even her attorney admits that it's valuable. "It's a spectacular piece of music," says O. Yale Lewis, Love's attorney. "Probably one of the most important pieces of music to be released in years." The song has been known by various titles including "On the Mountain" and "You've Got No Right." On the box set, intended for release October 23, it's called "You Know You're Right." A trial on the issue is set for December 31, 2002. "It comes out of being a kid," she says. "It comes out of the mind, they say, between 2 and 5 years old. When you're at that emotional-development level where you really can't tell the difference between what's in your head and what's outside your head, people-wise. "That's why I have trouble with assistants. Because I think I tell them things, but the truth is, I told it to somebody inside my head. And then I go crazy because the assistant said I didn't tell them."
