Make a wish, Harry Potter!

LOS ANGELES, California -- Those clever folks at the Warner Bros. marketing department are turning up their promotion of the upcoming "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" flick. They're asking that "Potter" fans to celebrate the birthday of the boy wizard.

It's Tuesday, July 31, according to the official "Harry Potter" Web site. The studio has set up an electronic birthday card on the site for fans of the best-selling children's books by J.K. Rowling, which will hit theaters November 16.

At least one media outlet is responding. The CBS Early Show plans to televise a birthday party in New York City, with a Harry Potter look- alike contest, balloons, cake and a six-foot birthday card, The Associated Press reports.

Harry Potter is 11 years old in the first book and 14 years old by the fourth and latest installment, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."

Warner Bros. is a unit of AOL Time Warner, which also owns CNN.

Garofalo: 'I'm such a late bloomer'

NEW YORK -- "Wet Hot American Summer," a spoof of early '80s sex comedies that opens Friday, features scenes where camp teens sneak in and out of each other's cabins, hoping to -- well, you know.

But Janeane Garofalo, who plays an uptight camp counselor in the film, says she went to camp when she was young, and she never hooked up with her camp mates.

"I didn't even have a romance at all besides crushes until my junior year of college," the 36-year-old said, according to The Associated Press. "I'm such a late bloomer. I was so socially awkward."

Garofalo doubts she would even be able to survive a camp with sex- crazed teens.

"After a while, the conversation tends to grate on me -- know what I mean? Like, I'm not as tolerant as I should be of teen-age sensibilities," she said.

Guess that's why they call it acting.

Affleck goes blond

NEW YORK -- Maybe "Pearl Harbor" turned his hair white?

No. Actually Ben Affleck, the dark-haired, 28-year-old actor, went blond earlier this month for a project he's planning with his younger brother, Casey, and friend Matt Damon -- a movie spoofing boy bands like 'N Sync.

"I dyed my hair for photo tests," Affleck told Us Weekly magazine for its August 6 issue. "I kept it because when am I ever going to be blond again?"

Affleck can be seen next in Kevin Smith's new movie "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," opening August 22.

Carpenter seeking men

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Mary Chapin Carpenter is looking for two good men.

The country singer told a Las Vegas audience this weekend that Dwight Yoakam and Lyle Lovett, who are featured in one of her older hits "I Feel Lucky," "just aren't doing it for me anymore."

So, Carpenter is taking names. After polling audiences on her current tour, the two names that she has come up with so far are actors John Cusack and George Clooney, who received the biggest round of applause during Friday night's show here, according to The Associated Press.

Carpenter, 43, is touring to promote her eighth album, "TimeSexLove."
