Bowie, P. Diddy unite

NEW YORK -- Look out all you rock 'n' rollers.

Music legend David Bowie and rap mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs have teamed up on a remake of Bowie's song, "This Is Not America."

The song, retitled "American Dream," will be featured on the soundtrack of the new film "Training Day," according to The Associated Press.

Bowie and Combs say they wanted to see the film starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke before committing to the project. Now, they can't wait to start work on it.

"We're just going to have a big old fusion of flavor," Combs told Associated Press Television News. "And hopefully we'll make a hit record that represents the movie but ... isn't just for the movie. Where it's also a hit record."

Combs describes the song as having "a techno, hip-hop funk-type feel" with Bowie bringing in some soul-rock.

Vince Neil's wife files for divorce

LOS ANGELES, California -- They were only married for a little over a year, but the wife of Motley Crue singer Vince Neil has had enough.

Heidi Mark has filed for divorce from Neil after 15 months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences in her Superior Court divorce petition, according to The Associated Press.

No other information was given, and Mark's attorney, David Karton, didn't immediately return telephone messages. The couple was married May 28, 2000.

Motley Crue was one of the most popular hair-metal bands of the 1980s. Some of their hits include, "Girls, Girls, Girls," "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)," and "Shout at the Devil."

A recollection of their wild life is available in the band's autobiography "The Dirt," released earlier this year.

Now you can rockforever.com

NEW YORK -- To those who just can't let go of memories of Deep Purple, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, and Loverboy -- or other bands from the 1970s and '80s -- here's a tip: head over to rockforever.com.

The site, launched in 1999, was put together by veteran rockers like Cafferty, Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner from Deep Purple as well as Loverboy's Mike Reno. Rockforever.com acts as an online record label merchandise e-tailer and tour promoter to generate new revenues from their stash of past hits, according to Variety.

Surfers will find MP3s and Liquid Audios of re-recorded versions of songs like Cafferty's "On the Dark Side," Orleans' "Still the One," and Toto's "Hold the Line." On all, 66 top-40 singles and 24 platinum records are featured.

With the re-recorded versions of the songs, the artists can skip past their labels to market their past work. They also plan to play between 60 and 80 live dates per year in the name of rockforever.com.

Bart: 'I'll be back'

LOS ANGELES, California -- Peter Bart, editor of the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety, announced on Thursday he will return to work on September 10 after serving a 21-day sentence for allegedly making racially charged comments.

The news, revealed by Bart to his Variety staff in the paper's newsroom, was greeted with applause.

"I don't want to sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger, but I'll be back," he told employees, according to Reuters. "I love you all. I can't wait to get back and kick ass."

Cahners Business Information, which publishes Variety, handed Bart the suspension following an article in Los Angeles magazine that quoted him making disparaging remarks about minorities and gays.

The article, written by Amy Wallace, included an accusation from an unidentified former Variety reporter that Bart once said he wouldn't hire gay men ''because they get sick and die." He was also quoted as using the n-word.

Bart, 69, denied making some of the remarks, but in a statement issued by Cahners he said he was "deeply sorry."

Bart will also undergo diversity training as part of his suspension.
