Inaugural events attract cross-section of American celebrity, with Texas twist

(CNN) -- What do you get when you cross a Latin heartthrob, bearded rockers, diva soul singers, a boy band, a teenage opera singer, and, uh, Wayne Newton?

You get part of the lineup for President George W. Bush's Inauguration events in Washington, D.C., starting on Thursday and lasting through the weekend.

The list of entertainers reads -- no surprise -- like a cross-section of Americana.

  • Ricky Martin. Since his new album came out in November, the toothy Latin singer/sex symbol been seen everywhere. Now, he'll perform at Thursday afternoon's Presidential Inaugural Opening Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.

  • Andrew Lloyd Weber. The Broadway composer will direct an orchestra at the opening festivities.

  • Country act Brooks & Dunn, opera prodigy Charlotte Church, pop singer Jessica Simpson, Las Vegas showman Wayne Newton and classical pianist Christopher Johnson will also provide a soundtrack to the Thursday celebration.

  • ZZ Top, the bearded rockers from Texas and a Bush favorite, will put a kick into Thursday's Best Little Ball in D.C., a private party honoring several key members of Bush's inner circle.

    Friday

    Soul divas Destiny's Child, country star Lee Ann Womack, rock group Nine Days and boy band 98 Degrees headline Friday's Concert Celebrating America's Youth.

    Saturday

    Eight inaugural balls will be held following Bush's swearing in on Saturday morning.

    Several prominent celebrities will help host events throughout the weekend, including funnymen David Spade and Drew Carey, singer/actor Meat Loaf, former "10" Bo Derek, "Jerry Maguire" cutie Jonathan Lipnicki, tough guy Robert Conrad, Hollywood heavyweight Robert Duvall, chiseled thespian Sylvester Stallone and former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali.
