Report: New 'Star Trek' TV show in development(CNN) -- "Star Trek" fans will apparently continue to go where no man has gone before, at least through 2002. A new "Star Trek" television series is currently under development, according to Viacom, parent company of UPN and Paramount, which puts out the current series, "Star Trek: Voyager." The new series would be slated to debut in the fall.
The announcement came during a Viacom meeting with a group of investment analysts, according to a report filed by Sci Fi Wire, which took its information from On24 media reporter Rick Ellis. It would be the fifth "Star Trek" TV series, which began with the original show that aired on NBC in 1966, and is based on sci-fi stories by Gene Roddenberry. "Star Trek" has also enjoyed a long life in the silver screen, with the tenth "Star Trek" movie currently in development for a 2002 release. It will again star Patrick Stewart, a veteran of the series' movies and TV shows. "Voyager" is winding up its seven-year run this season on UPN. RELATED STORIES:
