Charity Big Brother grips Britain
LONDON, England -- Anthea Turner has been evicted from the celebrity Big Brother house on Wednesday, the third personality to be voted off the hit show. Comedian Jack Dee, Boyzone Star Keith Duffy and Brookside Actress Claire Sweeney are the final three housemates to remain in the house until Friday, when the winner will be announced by Jonathan Ross live on BBC 1's Red Nose Day 2001. A total of 726,784 people called in to vote on whether Turner, Dee or Duffy should be evicted following Chris Eubank and Vanessa Feltz's departures earlier in the week. The celebrity version of the UK's Big Brother is being screened for Comic Relief with Tuesday's night's show attracting a combined Channel 4 and BBC1 audience of 11 million viewers. The sum raised for Comic Relief through Wednesday nights voting was £113,000, ($163,131)contributing to a total of £337,000 ($486, 450) the programme has so far raised for Comic relief charities in the UK and Africa. Channel 4 said it would not release a breakdown of the voting figures. A spokesperson said: "It's about raising money and the number of votes not which way the votes were split." "Every vote casts gets 15.5p (about 25c) for Comic relief, so the more the merrier, whoever they're for." Wearing red leather trousers and a cream polo-neck sweater, Turner smiled as she emerged from the Celebrity Big Brother house following her six-day incarceration. She said her housemates had offered her money to go back on Friday and tidy the place up. "I've made some good friends in there, goodness knows how they will cope without me. It will be a tip." As Turner was led out of the Big Brother house, comic Jack Dee enjoyed a sneaky embrace with his wife Jane. RELATED STORIES:
