| First look: NBA Hoopz
(IDG) -- Midway's NBA action game promises to deliver that good old NBA Jam experience with a whole new mess of goods when it ships for the PS2 later this year. The three-on-three game will enable gamers to play as a guard, forward or center, draining buckets from outside and pulling off special moves like alley-oops. Naturally, the numerous dunk animations will be over-the-top, and if a player gets hot enough, they'll catch fire and pull off even more insane moves. Player animations will include many recorded by Shaquille O'Neal (let's hope they didn't mo-cap his free throw shooting), and you'll be able to save your best replays to memory. New game modes will include the playground standard "21" point game and three-point shootout. Players can pick from a number of NBA stars since the game has an NBA license, while create-a-player and create-a-team modes will let gamers build custom rosters. Of course, in typical Midway fashion, the game will have a slew of hidden characters (mascots, WNBA stars, etc.) as well as courts (rooftop, beach, and more). Watch for NBA Hoopz to light up the scoreboard in February.
