(IDG) -- Shortly after the launch of the Dreamcast console, Sega launched the Mobile Assault tour, which consisted of truck like vehicles lugging Dreamcast kiosks across the country for all gamers to enjoy. During this tour, a "Crazy Taxi" contest was held yielding 10 players with the highest scores in the country. They met for the final showdown at the Sega Dreamcast Championships held on April 7th 2001 at Bimbo's 365 club in San Francisco, California.

Ten contestants went through three intense rounds leaving only three to take home prizes. Things got off to an unsure start when controversy arose over the rules, but things cooled down quickly and the competition went smoothly afterward. Gamepro was on hand at the event as an official Judge (along with four other of its esteemed competitors) to enforce fair play. When all was said and done, taking third place and $5,000 was Roger Mogle from St. Anne, Illinois. Coming in second was Michael Pirring who hails from San Francisco, California and took home $10,000. Pulling a big upset against all the "guys" and taking first place was Lindsay Gall who also calls St. Anne, Illinois home. She walked away with $15,000 and a nice trip to Beaches resort in Jamaica.

This event marked the first time gamers had a chance to test out the upcoming sequel "Crazy Taxi 2."
