Hundreds of new products expected at E3 exhibit
(IDG) -- Less than one month remains before E3 2001, being held May 17 to 19 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. A current exhibitor survey shows that 750 never-before-seen computer, online, and video games and related products will debut at the E3 from about 400 companies, including 123 first-time E3 exhibitors. "E3 exhibitors tell us that almost 80 percent of the products that will be displayed at this year's show are expected to be on store shelves in time for the 2001 holiday season," said Douglas Lowenstein, president of the IDSA, the trade association representing U.S. entertainment software publishers. "So, if you want to know what the more than 60 percent of Americans who play computer and video games will be asking for this holiday season, you need to be at E3, the world's most important forum for the launch of interactive entertainment products and technologies."
Approximately one-third of E3 exhibitors responded to this year's annual E3 exhibitor survey. Survey respondents reported that approximately 90 percent of their game titles being shown have been developed for families and children, with 19 percent specifically for women and girls and about eight percent for seniors. More than 40 percent of never-before-seen game titles at E3 2001 will be for console systems, more than one-third PC CD-ROM, 15 percent for handheld devices, and almost four percent for online/Internet only games.
