Preview: 'Silent Scope II -- Dark Silhouette'
By Major Mike
(IDG) -- As the sequel to one of the most innovative first-person shooters ever created for the arcade, "Silent Scope 2: Dark Silhouette" is looking to score a bulls-eye at home. This PlayStation 2 edition will feature a host of extras in addition to the Arcade mode, including an Original mode with new missions, mini-games, bosses and unlockable secrets. As one of two marksmen, you'll travel the globe to eliminate terrorist threats using your rifle and a variety of scopes, including thermal, night-vision and X-ray filters. Accompanying the smooth arcade-perfect visuals will be a solid audio track peppered with atmospheric effects.

The responsive control scheme in the preview version was identical to the first game's: i.e., moving the cursor around, selecting a target, zooming in and firing. Rather than sacrifice the game's smooth frame rate with a split-screen approach, "SS2" will retain the arcade's two-player game in the truest form by coupling two PS2s with an iLink network cable so dual snipers can work together -- or battle it out head to head.
