(IDG) -- NorthPoint Communications Inc. warned its customers Wednesday to "expect network outages and termination of DSL services immediately."

The company will close its DSL (digital subscriber line) Internet access network, having failed to find funding to continue operations, the company said in a statement.

Northpoint filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Jan. 16, enabling it to continue operations while it liquidated its assets, and on March 22 sold some assets to AT&T Corp., hoping this would buy it time to migrate customers to other services in an orderly fashion.

That effort has been unsuccessful, the company said Wednesday, urging customers to contact their ISPs (Internet service providers), which offer Internet access over Northpoint's network, directly for information about future service.
