Storm has little impact on AmtrakWASHINGTON (CNN) -- In the face of Monday's Nor'easter, travelers found railroads proved more dependable than airplanes in getting them to their destinations. The snowstorm prompted airlines to cancel hundreds of flights, but had little impact on train service in the Northeast, an Amtrak spokesman said.
"We will have at least normal, if not better than normal, ridership today," Karen Dunn told CNN. Amtrak, which operates between Boston and Newsport News, Virginia, had only two cancellations, and minor delays. Amtrak canceled its 10 a.m. Metroliner from New York to Washington because of power line problems in Newark, New Jersey, Dunn said. As a result, the noon Metroliner out of Washington was also canceled. But ridership was steady throughout the day, she said. While snow may have scared some people into staying home, many people whose flights had been canceled boarded trains instead, Amtrak said. Dunn said Amtrak expects to operate a normal schedule Tuesday. RELATED STORIES:
